News began to emerge yesterday of an ankle injury picked up in Dubai by Jermain Defoe. Initially there were some fears that this was a recurrence of the ankle ligament problem that he picked up while on England duty last year, but it seems that it isn’t quite so serious.

The official statement on the club website reads: “Jermain Defoe will return to training on the squad’s return home this week after undergoing x-rays on his foot following his participation in today’s session.

“The x-rays were clear and the striker is expected to rest tomorrow as a precaution to allow any possible soft tissue irritation to settle.”

With so little cover up front at the moment, Harry Redknapp at least will be grateful that the injury isn’t serious. However if it keeps Defoe out, even for just the Wolves game, does this mean a return to 4-5-1?

  1. perhaps.. i’d prefer crouch and pav to go up top together. seenig as harry sees defoe as his number one. they both will want to prove they can play together unless we play the same way we lined up against AC. modric holding back slightly and using his passing ability to unless the strikers as it worked well.. i’d rather pav than crouch up top tho.

  2. We need to find someone to stop Jarvis or we could be sunk and we need the first goal or it will be monumental defending by Wolves. If you want to see the Tempo top up just look at Chelsea in the second half its happening and the FA are ignoring it The Hamilton player is pretending he never new there was illegal drugs in his supplement . He also said he looked on the internet to see if it was okay and i did the same and found it was not legal this is the problem Players wont admit when they get caught. This will be a hard season Chelsea have proved that in the second half
