Could the news that we’ve all been waiting for be just around the corner as reports suggest that new Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is preparing a bid for Alan Hutton?

When you look at the story, all the pieces of the jigsaw seem to fit but does that mean that it’s easier for a journalist to toy with the Spurs fans and make the story up?

McLeish was supposedly interested in Hutton while he was at Birmingham but the deal didn’t materialise. Meanwhile, Kyle Walker spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa Park where he began to grow the reputation that he has now as one of England’s most exciting young prospects.

Villa were interested in Walker permanently but Spurs moved to tie him in to a new contract and declare that he would be challenging for our first team right back berth next season. Meanwhile, we have a more experienced Scottish right back going spare – someone who the new Villa manager was previously after. – It all fits!

The report suggests that Villa are preparing a £3m deal and if that does materialise, it would still remain to be seen if Spurs felt that was enough to allow the player to move on.

  1. I cam believe everything except the price. £3m (although probably about what he’s worth) is not a figure that would get Levy excited. £5m+ might get it through…

  2. In this day and age £5M isn’t a lot for a full back so let’s not let players go for silly money, you’d think we’d been relegated the way some fans want to give our players away. £3M isn’t a lot for a good player who has just fallen out of favour…

  3. Tottenham’s transfer fee demands are always ridiculous, can’t see Villa paying anymore than the 3 million being mooted.

  4. God, I hope not.

    Says it all.

As for Kyle, very good going forward, but rubbish in defence imo. He seriously needs to work on that side of his game.

  5. Message for Villan – Hutton’s very good going forward and rubbish in defence also! Having said that, I don’t think that full-back is Hutton’s best position. He is NOT a defender and has zero positional sense or natural defensive instincts. Best suited as a right-sided midfielder in my opinion. Valuation @ 5 million would be fair, although knowing Levy and the fact we paid 8 million, he might try and screw more out of any potential suitor.

  6. Come on guys get real, he isn’t a first team player, he is lacking match fitness, he is in his last year, you paid 8m off 3.5 seasons ago because of the promise of the lad, he hasn’t lived up to that promise.

We sold Gary Cahill for 4m he is now worth 20m, we sold Ridgewell for 2.5m he is worth 6m, We sold Gardner for 4m he is now worth 10m, we sold Crouch for 2m he is worth 15m, we let Reo Coker go on a free and he will prove to be worth over 10m when someone plays him week in week out, it’s all about first team football, Hutton is nothing special and if anything you should be glad to get him off your wage bill. For me i woudl rather have Cueller or Young at full back.
