After enjoying a great run of results against Manchester City in recent years, the last two league games haven’t exactly gone our way and although Sunday’s opponents have struggled a little in recent weeks, the Etihad will be a tough place to go and get a result.

There is a great belief in this current Spurs side however and Luka Modric is one player who is targeting an upset this time around.

“The last two seasons we have played massive games there and this will be another one,” Luka said.

“I hope we will do well and maybe win, why not? We are going there with a positive mindset and we will try to win the game.

“We try to do that against every opponent. I think we are that good that we can go there and win.”

It will be a tough ask on Sunday but Luka for one is keeping the faith.

  1. Forwards will be a problem w/o Ade (hint of the future?) so I’d go for a 4-3-3:

    Friedel
    Walker Dawson Kaboul BAE
    Parker VdV Modric
    Lennon Defoe Bale

VdV would play more advanced than the other 2 mids and the 3 forwards can play fluidly, moving around the whole front rather than just an assigned spot (like they’ve been doing more and more) — if City is having defensive trouble already, we should do everything possible to confuse them even more.

As a side, Bale might have started at LB and moved comfortably into LM, but I think he could play as a wide forward pretty well too. He’s good in the air, has a good shot, good skill, and confident in all these areas… isn’t he somewhat fast, also?

  2. Just go there and be on our metal take our chances and we will win after the chances he missed last saturday i am going to invest a little twenty on bale first g/s and the mighty spurs to win 3.1

  3. Bale and Lennon are the key men on Sunday.

City will, I assume, be forcing the issue and we will be at our most dangerous on the break, especially with the big wide Etihad pitch.

Thus we have to use a formation that utilizes them best. It will never happen, but I would be tempted to go with two DMs and modric in front of them. This means VDV misses out (which is why it would never happen).

I think if Sandro were fit then this argument has more weight, as he is a better player then Livermore.

Granted VDV depends to play his best in away games, but, he hasnt played well in an attacking sense for a while now, his only contribution of note was that luckyish goal against swansea.

At home we went into the game with no DM.. and it killed us.

    Livermore Parker
    Modric

    Lennon Bale

    Defoe

That attacking trio is all about pace and movement. Lennon and Bale to play high and wide.

This will not happen as I dont see Harry leaving out VDV, but I think it should be given careful consideration.

  4. We need to put our chances away, and a bit of fairness from the officials, then we have a good chance.
Time for Defoe to show why he should not be dropped or sold.
