Over the weekend, reports linking Spurs with a £5m move for former striker Dimitar Berbatov began to emerge once again. We’d already covered this story on a number of occasions so didn’t comment at the time but it’s interesting to look at the latest suggestions from the Bulgarian media.

Firstly, here’s what the player’s agent had to say about his client’s situation at Old Trafford,

“Dimitar will be able to look for a new team during the summer and United’s management assured us that they will not obstruct us in that,” said Emil Danchev.

The report then goes on to claim that Luka Modric will be thrown into the mix and while United may be keen on the Croatian, our £40m price tag has put them off. As a result, Berbatov could be used as ‘bait’ to tempt Spurs into a transfer.

Dimitar Berbatov plus cash for Luka – is there any temptation in that deal whatsoever?

  1. Yup – tempted. I think we need a class striker more than a midfielder who’s almost certainly eyeing the exit anyway. Yes Modders can run the show when he’s “on” but he hardly ever scores and, at the moment, nor does anyone else!

  2. When I read this my first thought was that if Harry and the Spurs board want to get themselves strung up there must be easier ways of doing it.

  3. no way, berba, has lost a lot of pace, and is now 31 yrs old, luka is too important to spurs, he has to be worth at least 50 million, so it’s a no brainer

  4. Comments above – washed up has-been…

who was the PL top scorer last season and probably the classiest player I have ever witnessed in a spurs shirt.

I would not want to lose Luka if I am honest, not for anything, but if you add Berba to what we already have, it would be a receipe for some serious magic.

  5. after the way that git sulked to get away to the scumbags-there is no way i would have him anywhere near whl_not even free
if utd want modders then get out the c book £50 million or just piss off-stick to you guns levy

  6. You have to face it, you probably can’t afford Berbatov’s wages. Anyway, he’s only another in the long list of players “linked” to Spurs who you can’t afford and have no chance of signing.

Modric will leave this summer, no question!

    • Can’t afford?! And what makes you think that?! Levy has already said he is prepared to push the boundrys of spurs 80 grand a week wage structure for the right players. There is also money available to spend. You silly goonies need to do some research! Spurs are one of the best run finacially in the league. They make a healthy profit, have a healthy backer. They will never do a chelsea or a city when it comes to spending because they are sensible but they haven’t spent the 30m from berbas first sale yet. Nor the 20m from keane. Not to mention the 20m they got for crouch and palacios or the 12m for pav. Plus all the other players they sold in between like 4m for hutton or 6m for ohara etc. Under redknapp spurs have spent about 28m in 4/5 seasons.

  7. Definately no to Berba… If they want modric we should only sell if they agree to let us have Valencia & Smalling. Then sign Ever Banega & Joe Allen to replace modders.

  8. No no no no no no!

Has everyone forgotten how he refused to play for us??
Absolutely no point in entertaining this load of bull, if he is not good enough for United then he’s not good enough for us. We need to move forward no backwards.
    Enough said!!!!!!!!!!

  9. I’d go for Berba (as well as another striker) but no way in a deal for Modric. Berba still remains my favourite player of my time supporting Spurs, but Modric is a much more important player. We completely lack creativity without him.

      • Can you believe Mancs paying and relying on a Scouser who bent Sir Alex over for £50K a week.
        You couldn’t afford Modric!
And Berba Stick it up your ARSE moody Bulgarian con OFF.

  10. No player is bigger than the club. And for that a big NO to berba. Classless fella, who left spurs to rot for his own green pasture. Anyway, save the money to fund other players wages. Modric is an important player for Spurs anyway.
