The French media are claiming that a Spurs bid in the region of 15 million euros has been received by Lyon for their French international goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

25 year old Lloris has been mentioned on this site before but at the time, his name was just one of many keepers being linked. The latest reports if true, would suggest that the French international is now our number one target.

The stories also suggest however that while Lyon may have been looking to sell at 15 million a few weeks ago, they may now look to hold out for another 5 million euros in anticipation of a bidding war between Spurs, Arsenal and potentially some other clubs.

How much of this is true is, as always, open to debate but it is starting to suggest that AVB may not be looking at Brad Friedel as his number one next season.

  1. Rather than spend an unnecessary amount on an area which doesn’t really need strengthening just yet, I’d be happier if AVB went for either Craig Gordon or Allan McGregor.

    • are you smoking fuuny stuff craig gordon was let go ny sunderland – friedel is over 40 gomes is the worst keeper in the history of football Ian walker is the 2nd – point is we need a top keeper thats available and lloris is that

  2. talksport have a report that its done deal to the Gooners for £12mil.

But then it is Talksport and 99% of the stories i have read on there are utter shite

  3. Although expensive, this would be a top class signing and at only 25, would clearly be an investment for the future as well as present. I hope there is enough more for big signings elsewhere though, as our main area of concern is up front, where we need to sign someone to be the difference between last frustrating inability to stick it in the net…

  4. We need a good young keeper. If noy Lloris then a quality alternative. Freidel did well last time but we need to build for the future as well as for now.

  5. Steve Mandanda would be equally attainable. I think he’s expected to leave this summer. Like him better. Or Jack Butland. Am tempted to say Akinfeev, then remember it’s FM talking. Wonder how Russia would have done at the Euro’s with him..?

  6. A lot of this does make sense. Is wenger unhappy with his current goalie, and do you really see him paying 15 million for a goalie. I somehow doubt it.. Having said that, we could do with a really good goalkeeper

  7. Lets get some thing straight here, Lloris is a good French Goalie also we havew supposed to have bit for Butland he is a bit to young for the Prem at the moment and the rumour is that he could stay at his present club for a season or two for first team experience which would be a great idea, Get Gomes to be part of the Lloris deal so money is saved on wages, retire Cudicini Have Fridel and Lloris fight for the number one spot and that would be good for the club or release Fridel and keep Cudicini as a back up to Lloris.

  8. Whilst I believe a lloris for fridel tranfer would represent a upgrade in quality, and give yet another clear indication into what direction our club is heading. I hope we don’t become obsessed by the idea of buying abroad as there are players in the PL that will undoubtedly enhance the quality of our squad, while also standing a better chance of hitting the ground running due to their experience of English football. Can anybody say that 7million for demba ba wouldn’t represent good value for a player that scored goals for fun in the first half of last season (remember is goalscoring performance against utd) and at 27 should be reaching his prime? Or that while the potential signing of Oscar looks good on paper, would he really be better value than Junior Hoilett who is available on a free (or a very low fee) due to his contract situation at blackburn. Personally, I’d take hoillet, free or not, every single day of the week. There is no doubting the kid is qaulity, and is also a proven performer in the league, who could act a cover/competion for spurs in a number of positions. For me, it seems like a no brainer. This one is a more of a punt, but what about even signing a player like josh mceachran. Probably cost around 8mill, clearly a talented player, that in our style of play could blossom into our very own jack wilshere. Think about it.

  9. Feel bad for Brad, but Lloris is the perfect long-term goalkeeper. I think we should keep Brad on as part of our GK coaching staff, with the possibility of moving up to an overall coaching role. He’s a premier league icon, and probably the most consistent performer the premier league has ever seen. Even at 40, he was solid for us. His save against Siggurdson at WHL (left hand, top corner shot) was stunning. Plus, he’s a class act. Never makes waves in the media and is an ideal role model for young goalkeepers.

  10. Lloris is a sound keeper, but his form has dipped over the last 2 years, leading to Lyon being prepared to let him go. Whether a new address will help him re-capture his earlier levels is up for debate. But at £12-15m, I want to know he’s worth the investment. At the minute, I’m wavering and would agree with an earlier post – Mandanda may be a decent alternative….

  11. Lloris is a very talent goalkeeper in Europe, but the price is very expensive to sign him.
I would like to suggest that AVB should sign Jack Butland.Because he is very talented goolie.I also suggest that AVB should sign these player ~Ryan Showcross,Junior Hoilett,Mario Mandzukic and the replacement for Modric that should be Jaoa Moutinho or at least Paulo Ganso.

    • Don’t think we will get Mandzukic, call me a pessimist but he’s just signed for Bayern (we can’t take a penalty) Munich! Not gonna happen.
Shawcross? why would we want him? we’ve just spent 12million on a centre half with more quality in his left leg than shawcross has got in his entire body, yes, he works hard and is committed but he’s not that good. I would say all the centre halves on our books are better than shawcross.
Holiett, maybe, he was a bit hot and cold for me and we already have Bentley and Dos Santos to do that for us, both of which it would seem are going to get a clean slate under AVB.
Moutinho….YES, all day long, but only if Modric goes.
