With Wigan almost certain to be relegated at the end of this season, speculation has already begun over deals involving some of their better players. One of the names to be mentioned in connection with a summer exit is the impressive Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarty and many claim that the 22 year old could be a perfect fit for Spurs.

McCarthy has been at the DW since joining from Hamilton Academicals in 2009 and has since gone on to become a vital member of the Wigan side while establishing himself as a full international.

It’s felt that McCarthy is unlikely to settle for Championship Football next season and that he could join up at the Lane as a long term replacement for Scott Parker while keeping pressure on Sandro for a first team place.

As with all relegated clubs, there has to be some departures if Wigan drop down to the second tier but is James McCarthy the man to step into Tottenham’s central midfield?

  1. We have enough central midfielders, McMannaman would be a much better option we need more cover in the wide areas!
