Earlier in the day, those sage people at Sky Sports news were reporting that England boss Roy Hodgson would have to look elsewhere for strikers with four of his first choices struggling with injury. Jermain Defoe was one of the men who, it was claimed, might miss out so it was something of a surprise for those who hadn’t really bothered to follow the updates on JD’s hamstring to find him named in the senior squad to face Scotland next week.

Jermain is included, along with Kyle Walker but there’s no spot for Scott Parker who faces a serious battle to get his place back ahead of the World Cup in Rio.

There’s been no instant withdrawal from the line up so we assume for now that Defoe is fit enough to take his place alongside Kyle in the squad for Wednesday’s game.

In the meantime, Harry Kane and Tom Carroll have both been named in England’s Under 21 squad for their match with Scotland on Tuesday. We wish them and all our players on international duty a successful and injury free week.
