England’s under 21 side drew 1-1 with their Finnish counterparts last night and much praise was reserved for Harry Kane after his direct involvement in the equaliser. The young striker came off the bench in the second half and nearly scored the leveller himself before eventually setting it up for Saido Berahino.
Kane could also have grabbed a late winner but as he took many of the headlines relating to this game, manager Gareth Southgate spoke highly of Tom Carroll who continues to impress in every match he plays right now.
“I thought James Ward-Prowse and Tom Carroll were terrific,” Southgate told reporters.
“Even when we were down to 10 men, they kept probing and opening them up and did a disciplined job defensively when we needed that cover.”
Kane continues to impress but doesn’t quite stand out as yet in those brief moments when he takes to the field in a Spurs shirt. However, the same can’t be said for Tom Carroll who looks an immense prospect and while Tottenham’s squad is getting more crowded, many of us hope that AVB will find a place in the starting XI for the young midfielder once his loan spell at QPR comes to an end.
Carroll should already be playing for Spurs first team with Eriksen. How good would that be?
I agree Rob. Very surprised to see him loaned out. Hopefully he will stay injury free and have the same impact Townsend had last year at QPR. The good thing about loaning him out is that it gives young Holtby the chance to shine. He will be the hidden gem this year for sure. C O Y S
Rob and Stu — why are you surprised to see Carroll loaned out? At Spurs he’d spend his time on the bench. He IS a great talent but needs playing time to get there. At QPR he’ll be a consistent starting number 10 and next year will have the experience to stay at Spurs.
QPR have looked after Walker and Townsend, I’m sure they’ll do the same for Carroll
