This Sunday’s fixture with Everton could have a crucial bearing on the top four places but for fans who want to see any kind of European football at the Lane, it’s starting to look like a ‘must win’. At best, the Europa League slots will go down to seventh place but we could miss out if FA and Capital One Cups dictate that it’s fifth position or nothing.
Jan Vertonghen returned to the side against Hull at the weekend and has urged the team to improve ahead of Sunday’s clash.
“I was happy to be back and I felt more confident in the second half. I want to finish the season strongly now. Hull was my first game in two months,” Jan said.
“We wanted to win and it’s a shame we couldn’t. We have to bounce back in an important game against Everton. We have to be ready for that.”
Meanwhile, Gylfi Sigurdsson feels we are stronger than we were at this stage last season.
“The squad are even stronger now than this time last year and the new players are starting to settle in. By the end of February, we’ll have a better idea of who will be at the top and who will be competing for fourth place,” said the Icelandic international.
“We need to make sure we go on another run and hopefully that will ensure we’re in the top four at the end of the season.”
Gylfi scored twice at Goodison in 2012-13 in a strong end to the campaign for him, but he’s likely to start from the bench on Sunday as once again, Everton and Spurs take part in a crucial fixture.

I just hope Tim gets the team selection right.We can not play “kids” youngsters against teams higher on the log than Spurs.We have all these world class players returning from injury,it is time for them to show us loyal fans why the club invested in them.
