Tottenham left back Benoit Assou-Ekotto has returned to White Hart Lane after a season long loan at QPR and he already faces an uncertain future at club level but the defender’s extraordinary ‘headbutt’ on his own Cameroon team mate could have serious repercussions as far as his international career is concerned.

BAE pushed his head into the face of Benjamin Moukandjo in the dying moments of last night’s 4-0 defeat to Croatia – a result that ends Cameroon’s hopes of staying in the World Cup.

“It’s unimaginable. I saw this happen and I need to find out exactly what happened, why exactly these two players exploded,” said Head Coach Volker Finke.

“I hate to see that. It’s not the image of Cameroon I want to project.”

When Benny was at Loftus Road last season, former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp claimed he wasn’t the same player that he looked after at White Hart Lane. Assou-Ekotto has said that he views football as just a job and he may be out of one very shortly.

  1. Everyone throws the ‘football’s just a job’ quote at him, he obviously takes his ‘job’ very seriously to get that angry with his own team mate! Reckon he’ll be off to Turkey or somewhere if not Spurs reserves. This awful behaviour adds to the fact he didn’t show enough last year to attract a Prem offer, wages too high for the Championship…
