Tottenham notched up their first win of the season in a mixed performance in which the side rode their luck to emerge with three points.

There were very good individual performances from Eric Dier and goalscorer Ryan Mason in midfield, while substitutes Erik Lamela and Andros Townsend brought energy to the team and contributed hugely to Spurs taking a late lead.

Yet defensively there remains problems and Tottenham were fortunate to not concede as Sunderland twice struck the woodwork. Give your marks out of ten below.

  1. 3/10 Playing a poor team we looked abject and short of ideas or any real threat. That we kept a clean sheet to me seemed more luck than anything else. Lucky not to concede a penalty and two shots hitting the woodwork. Granted, we were equally wasteful after the goal, but overall that was one of the more turgid displays I’ve seen us put in.

  2. Rather solid game. Our offensive play are to slow. Nearly always ends upp with slow possesion play in the middle. Walker and Davies needs to go more forward and we need Eriksens passing and more pace at our wings. Townsend made some difference tjis time!

  3. Townsend should be playing every week in front of chadli who is one of the worst buys I’ve ever seen at spurs , how Lennon was sold and him kept I don’t no . Walker needs to learn how to defend first attack after . Rose is a better option than Davis as his pace helps no end down the left . Could be a frustrating season ahead .

  4. 4/10. Lloris distribution shocking. A 32 year old constantly showing a clean pair of heels to our CB’s is not very inspiring. Just cant see how Walker is playing ahead of Trippier and Davies is so bland. Dier and Mason worked their socks off but Chadli was again a total waste of space. Alli must stop trying to mix it with every opponent as he does have talent and I’ve no doubt Son will come good this season. Kane is Kane, 110% effort and his goals will come. Worryingly, we were 2nd best for long periods of the game to one off the poorer teams in the Prem. Unfortunately the team reflects the manager, boring, slow, unadventurous and predictable.

  5. Butts! Rose is a better option going forward but Davies is more solid defensively. Do you pick a defender for his defensive capabilities or attacking? For me its his defending which means Davies. Chadli was truly appalling in this game and should have been dragged before Alli or Son were. Lennon was sold because for years he has shown “potential” which has never really come to fruition. Don’t get me wrong. I liked Lennon but other than pace what did he offer? Very few goals and poor delivery from the wings. Suffice to say, we’ll need to play much much better to beat other premier league sides. COYS
