A senior Italian football official has claimed that Mauricio Pochettino is looking to bolster his squad with the signing of the Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne.

Pietro Lo Monaco has worked as a Sporting Director for the likes of Catania, Genoa, Palermo and Messina, adding some credibility to his claim that Spurs are interested in Insigne.

“I know for certain that Pochettino really likes Insigne.

“As a wide forward, Insigne is a complete player.”

The Italian international has been in superb form for Napoli this season, scoring 12 goals. Insigne is a skilful player who likes to cut in from the left onto his right-foot. Standing just 5ft 4″ tall, Insigne has impressive close control and is a dangerous dribbler.

It’s certainly encouraging to see Tottenham linked with a player of this quality, but it will likely prove difficult to prise Insigne away. Born in Naples, the agent of Insigne recently claimed that the player was committed to the club and could become the Francesco Totti of Napoli.

Whether Napoli will want Insigne to stay for that long could depend on how much money they’re offered. A huge fee could tempt them to part with one of their star assets, but is it conceivable that Spurs be the one to pay it?

Watch Insigne in action below and let us know if he’s worth the gamble.
