It was a disappointing night for Tottenham in Belgium, losing 1-0 in the first leg their Europa League clash with Gent.

Spurs will need to step up a level if they are to turn the tie around at Wembley. But perhaps the trip to Belgium wasn’t completely useless.

The Mail report that Tottenham used the visit to scout Anderlecht midfielder Youri Tielemans. The 19-year-old captained his side to victory over Zenit St Petersberg.

At such a young age, Tielemans has already made over 150 league appearances for Anderlecht and has made his full international debut for Belgium.

The midfielder seems to have the perfect mix of youth and experience that will undoubtedly appeal to Mauricio Pochettino, and Spurs could do with reinforcements in midfield.

The clubs has had plenty of past success with Belgians; Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembele are all key members of the first team squad.

Tottenham may have to fight off competition from Everton and Manchester United, who have previously held an interest in the player.
