Tottenham are willing to make Toby Alderweireld one of the club’s highest paid players in a bid to fend off interest from Inter Milan, according to The Mirror.

Inter are set for a spending spree this summer with the backing of Chinese investors Suning Group, and have reportedly made Alderweireld one of their primary targets.

But Spurs are determined to keep hold of the 28-year-old. Consequently, Daniel Levy is prepared to double Alderweireld’s £50,000-a-week wages so that he in line with the club’s top earners.

Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane are both thought to earn around £100,000-a-week as a result of signing new contracts earlier this season. Alderweireld is likely earn a similar amount if he signs a new deal with Tottenham.

Another interesting line from The Mirror’s story: Inter are also targeting Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, who decided to sell Alderweireld to Spurs just under two years ago. Would the two really be keen to reunite?

  1. Southampton sold Alderweireld to Tottenham ..Ath Madrid didn’t sell him to us!
And under Simeone he wasn’t, a few years back, the player he is now ..er under Poch!
Otherwise Simeone wouldn’t have sold him in his mid 20s to Southampton for a few million!!!
If Toby wishes to go to Inter (or anywhere else) he’ll go as a far better player now BECAUSE OF POCH, but, at 28, he may also slide back to the slightly above average standard of his A Madrid days.
When will the pundits, the speculators, the top clubs and everyone else (apart from the greedy agents who know exactly what THEY are doing) get it into their heads that Tottenham and Poch have made these players what they are ..and that is, part of a potentially GREAT TEAM!! For the sake of a bit more money that, after taxes and commissions to agents etc., they STILL won’t be able to spend ..would they really be willing to forsake the big things to come from this team and at Tottenham Hotspur FC ..a club that is really going places again, after all these years???

  2. You need to check your facts. Spurs purchased him from At Madrid….At the time he was on loan (from At Mad) at Southampton he who had a 1st option to buy him….Ath Mad cancelled this clause for 1.5 mil pounds in order to sell to the highest bidder. Spurs thus bought him for 11.5 million pounds from Ath Madrid.
