Ryan Sessegnon wasn’t in Fulham’s squad on the opening day of the Championship season because of a hamstring injury, according to Sky Sports.

The 19-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham in recent days, with reports suggesting the Londoners are closing in on a £30 million deal.

As a result, Sessegnon was expected to be left out of the Fulham squad for their Championship curtain raiser against Barnsley at Oakwell.

Indeed that was the case. And on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday coverage, presenter Jeff Stelling revealed the teenager was out with a ‘hamstring injury’.

Stelling did quote marks with his fingers when he said the above, suggesting Fulham’s reasoning may not have been totally honest.

Of course, there is a chance Fulham are just making an excuse for Sessegnon’s absence. It is possible he is actually in the process of finalising his move to Spurs rather than being sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Now all we can do is await further updates from either Fulham or the media. Sessegnon will become Tottenham’s third summer signing if the deal goes through.

  1. We need to keep hold of toby and Eriksson give them what they want, also keep hold of rose! Sign sessegnon and play him left attacking mid with rose/Davies LB that would a frightening left sided side! I would like to dream for coutinho loan move with an option to buy next season and I would like to see Aaron’s from Norwich there instead of aurier, pushing the boat a bit with dabayla but I am glad that the club are thinking big but they need to translate that into something that will happen before Thursday’s deadline!
Think big we need to act big as the other clubs will catch us up, everything is in place manager, stadium, training ground are 5 star quality need to keep this squad together and add quality players who can change or win games for us.
