Jose Mourinho has heaped praise on Tottenham star Giovani Lo Celso ahead of a crucial run of fixtures for the midfielder and the team.

Earlier on Friday, we relayed the confirmation that Lo Celso has recovered from a groin injury and is available for selection against Aston Villa this weekend.

The Argentine took a while to adapt to the Premier League and struggled for game time until towards the very end of Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure. He initially failed to impress Mourinho but has become a key player in recent weeks, convincing the club to make his loan move from Real Betis permanent last month.

Lo Celso should go straight back into the starting line-up against Aston Villa and is bound to play a key role in next week’s huge fixtures against RB Leipzig in the Champions League Round of 16 and Chelsea in the Premier League.

Ahead of those games, Mourinho waxed lyrical about the 23-year-old in his pre-Villa press conference.

“He can play everywhere – 10, 8, midfield player with [Harry] Winks,” Mourinho said of Lo Celso (via Dan Kilpatrick).

“On the right, the left, everywhere. I’m so, so happy with him. I like him very, very much.”

There is an argument to be made that Lo Celso has become Tottenham’s most important player in a very short period of time, at least while Harry Kane is sidelined with a hamstring injury.

  1. Let’s hope he keeps up his form and not become to complacent like so many players do…we need players like him on top form every week not just a few games
