Jose Mourinho has left underfire Dele Alli out of the Tottenham squad for their Carbabao Cup tie against Chelsea on Tuesday evening, according to the Telegraph.

The 24-year-old has featured in just two of Spurs’ five matches in all competitions, and wasn’t named in the 18-man squad for Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

Alli started the opening day defeat against Everton – with his only other appearance coming in last Thursday’s Europa League qualifier in Macedonia, in which he lasted just an hour before he was replaced by Harry Kane against minnows Shkendija after once again failing to impress Mourinho.

And with three more games in the space of six days, the Carabao Cup looked like the perfect opportunity for Alli to be given valuable minutes in a bid to impress the Spurs boss.

However, although Mourinho is expected to make wholesale changes for the fourth-round clash against former side – with Tottenham in action in Europe on Thursday before travelling to Manchester United three days later – Alli won’t be on show in north London.

  1. 2 weeks ago was Ndombele. This week it is Alli, why must the manager always have a foil. I like Mou for now, but he is wearingme thin already with his antics. The sooner he figure out Alli is not a #10, but an attacking mid playing deep he will be ok. Because he had score a few goals all of a sudden he is a number 10.
