The agent of Napoli midfielder Amadou Diawara has dismissed reports his client could join Tottenham this summer.

Recent reports in Italy claimed Spurs remain in talks with Napoli over a potential deal for Diawara.

The 20-year-old, who has scored one goal an provided one assist in 24 appearances across all competitions this season, has struggled to displace the likes of Marek Hamsik, Jorginho and Allan in Napoli’s midfield.

That said, Diawara is considered one of the most talented young players in Serie A and fits Tottenham’s criteria for a potential long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele.

However, the Guinea’s international’s agent, Daniele Piraino, has refuted claims Diawara will join Spurs.

“I don’t know who’s putting out such destabilising rumours at such a delicate moment in Napoli’s season,” Piraino told RAI Sport (via Football Italia). “I don’t know who’d be interested in doing that.

“The release clause? It doesn’t exist, not for Italy nor for foreign countries. It hasn’t been looked at and there’s no negotiation with Tottenham, with English teams or any team in Europe.

“Diawara is very happy at Napoli, he has three years on his contract and he’s focused.

“He’s very happy with the city, with the fans, with the environment and indeed everything, he’s totally focused on Napoli and the fight for the Scudetto, he hopes to find space in the final sprint.

It sounds like Piraino is very eager for his client to stay at Napoli, although there could be more to the situation than first meets the eye.

Perhaps he is trying to secure an improved contract for Diawara or simply make sure the midfielder is still in Napoli’s future plans.

It will be interesting to see if Spurs make a concrete offer in the comings months.
